8. Questions for proposed solutions to global warming. Due Wed. Jan. 13th

Step 1- Read all the proposed laws from the previous assignment.
Step 2- Choose one proposed law which is thoughtful.
Step 3-
First, paraphrase the proposed law you are responding to: For example: “Mr. Saad Rehman thinks that…”

Then, write a question about the proposed law. The question must be: clear, sincere, useful and be the sort of question which leads to more questions. The question you write must complicate the comment’s argument, make the reader of the comment you are questioning think deeper. Stir up some intellectual trouble.

  1. Mr. Shor said that cars should be a higher price so that less people would pollute. This can help the Global Warming cause by a significant amount, but there is one problem. Raising the price of a car may cause automobile companies to fire people because of low money coming in. This can cause a worse economy or even a violent riot. My question is, if you make car prices higher, how will you control these problems?

  3. Mr. Sheldon Noel thinks that “If your destination is no longer than a mile, you should find a non-carbon emission way to get there.” My question to him is how will you keep track of how far someone goes? How do you know it is not going to be less than a mile?

  4. Mr. Dayton Shor thinks that, "Cars are the main cause of pollution so If people want to pollute the air they must do it for a higher price until electric cars are invented." Well my question to Mr. Shor is wouldn't it be easier to just buy hybrid cars instead of rising the prices for regular cars? Why wait when you can buy a hybrid car, if you wait for the electricity cars to be invented the earth may still get harmed by global warming. This car is good for the environment to because it doesn't pollute the air.

  5. Mr. Mateen Yousaf says that if people have a short distance to drive they should either walk, skate, run, or bike there instead of hurting the planet and driving. My question to him is “ What happens if people have disabilities and or overweight and can't walk, skate, run or bike? How will you have them be Eco friendly too?

  6. Ms. Abigail Russell thinks that "if you live within a mile radius of where you need to go, you should ride a bike." My question for her is; what would people who cannot ride a bike, don't have a bike and have a injury do to get around and save the environment at the same time?

  7. Ms. Shahid said that if she was a senator she would create a law that makes smoking illegal. Under her law if someone was caught smoking they would be arrested. My question to Ms. Shahid is: What if the majority of American people didn’t like this law and refused to obey it? Also, would it be illegal to produce, purchase, and possess the item(s) or just to be caught smoking it?

  8. Ms.Shoukat says, "If i were a senator, i would make a law for air pollution to stop." Pollution is a big problem of global warming, but how will you make people stop causing pollution?

  9. Ms. Mei stated that smoking should be banned and those who smoke will be thrown in to jail. However, the problem here is that by banning smoking, it is violating people’s rights. Even though smoking causes illnesses, they have every right to treat their body the way they want to. Also, even though smoking leads to second hand smoke, it still shouldn’t be banned but instead be restricted. For instance, there can be special buildings for people who smoke which are separated from the nonsmokers. This will ensure that no one will suffer from second hand smoke for nonsmokers won’ be exposed to smoke. Stopping people from smoking Is a violation of their natural human rights and thus is it not illegal, according to the Constitution, to ban smoking for it takes away human rights?

  10. Ms. Kashem says that emissions are caused by smoking, factories, vehicles, etc… Ms. Kashem thinks there should be a law that says people should not be able to drive in their cars if their destination is three miles or less. She thinks you should walk, ride your bike, skateboard, or find other ways of transportation that will not pollute the earth. My question to Ms. Kashem is how police officers will or traffic workers find out who drove their car within three miles. Will there be cameras in the street that will be able to see where you are heading if you are driving in your car?

  11. Ms. Mei believes that smoking should be made illegal and smokers should be put into jail. My question for her is, wouldn’t this put people out of their jobs? Think of all the people that work for these companies. If smoking is made illegal, they will all have no jobs at all.

  12. Mr. Dayton Shor said that cars should be a higher price so that less people would pollute. This could help the environment. But there is one problem, how can raising a price affected people from buying cars. Some people are rich, and they buy lots of cars. Also it could cause car companies to shut down. Then lots of people would lose their jobs. And that can hurt their family’s economy, because if they lose their job, they lose money and wind up being poor.

  13. Mr. Dayton Shor thinks "Cars are the main cause of pollution so if people want to pollute the air they must do it for a higher price until electric cars are invented." I do agree with the fact of the electric cars, but we have already invented HYBRID cars if you didn’t know. One hybrid car from the company Toyota has a hybrid car which only runs on gas after the speed limit goes over 30 that is a good thing. It will take a couple of years to make an electric car but if we all buy hybrid cars what will happen when electric cars are invented? Are we going to waste thousands of dollars on them? What will we do after electric cars are invented?

  14. Ms. Shoukat says that if she were a senate, she would make a law to stop air pollution. We all know that air pollution is causing global warming. My question to her is what law will you make to stop air pollution?

  15. Mr.Shore says "If I was senator I would make a law for cars to be a higher price because cars are the main cause of pollution so If people want to pollute the air they must do it for a higher price until electric cars are invented."
I don't get how that can stop Global Warming. We want to decrease Global Warming and he said that we should rise prices until electric cars are made, but we have hybrid cars and we want more people to buy it so wouldn't you think it would be a good idea to decrees prices for that?My main question to you is that how would rising taxes on cars help reduce Global Warming.

  16. Ms. Shahid says that “If I were a senator, I would make a law that states no smoking. If anybody smokes they will be arrested. Smoking pollutes the air, which causes climate change. This law would help solve the climate crisis.” I have a question about that because this idea is unconstitutional because the government can’t force people to stop doing what they do.

  17. Ms. Sullivan thinks that people should use there car less often and start taking the bus more or walking. My question is How will we control the people?. How would we know that people are not using there car often. I think that would make a good law but we would have to get into details.

  18. Mr Ryan Weber stated that everyone who lived in an apartment or house would have to plant a tree. My question is what if someone didnt have time or money to plant a tree? Also, what if the tree or plant they plant dies?

  19. Mr. Reymond said if he was a senator he would destroy all cars and factories that uses oil to re-cycle and make electric cars and ban all sources of gas. I strongly believe that is not a positive idea. If we destroy the factories and cars, how are we going to make electric cars? Where do you think we will have the money to do that? and that will make global warming worst.

  20. Ms. Mei said to “ban smoking and if someone smokes, the person would go to jail because smoking would pollute the earth.” I ask her, what if smokers start to riot and they smoke even more just to show they’re not going to listen? Also, what if smokers start to smoke at home where the police can’t catch them smoking?
